Anthony Bongo Sr. passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. He was 82 years old.

Anthony was born in Tuckahoe, NY to Antonio and Florence Bongo on January 20, 1930. He graduated from Eastchester High School as a baseball star and was drafted by the NY Baseball Giants. After high school he worked as a construction laborer and also played for the NY Giants farm teams on the east coast until the Korean War. He enlisted in the Air Force and rose to the rank of Sergeant and was decorated during his tenure. Upon returning from his service he joined his family who now resided in west New Rochelle. There he met his wife, Rose Ann Caiazzo. They were married on September 9, 1956. He then worked for various construction companies in Westchester, finally joining his sons in his last venture, PAB Contracting in New Rochelle.

His success in business led him to his favorite pastime: helping others. He has been a staunch supporter of various organizations (and individuals) such as Make-A-Wish, The Danny Fund and The Boys’ and Girls’ Club. His generosity has been acknowledged by local organizations such as the Casa Calabria Society, The Boys’ and Girls Club and the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence. Anthony did not enjoy the spotlight, he just loved to give.

  1. Great Man
Mr. Bongo was one of the most generous people I’ve met in New Rochelle during my career. He gave so much money to New Rochelle charity and civic groups. He will be missed by many and was a great man.
