WHITE PLAINS, NY -- What does #DadBeThere mean to you? As part of his ongoing fatherhood initiative, County Executive Robert P. Astorino today announced a design contest aimed at getting fathers and children to spend quality time together. In this case, the mission is to create a logo that illustrates what it means – to them – for a dad to be there for his kids.

“The goal is simple,” Astorino said. “We want to create as many opportunities as possible for dads and kids to spend time together. Here we want to see how families interpret our theme of #DadBeThere, because to each person it can mean something completely different. And that’s the beauty of it. There is no one answer, or one way, to be there for your kids. The important thing is just that you’re there – no excuses.”

Submissions must be received no later than August 1, 2016. Please include your name, contact information and a brief explanation of the meaning behind your design. Email submissions to [email protected] or mail to the following address:

Westchester County Office Building

Attn: Diana Costello

148 Martine Ave, 9th Floor

White Plains, NY 10601

The winning design will be featured as part of the county’s Fathering Conference in April, which each year draws over 400 fathers and service providers to the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

The contest will be rolled out through participating youth bureaus, but it is open to the general public as well. You must be a Westchester resident with children age 21 and under to be eligible to win. Designs will be uploaded to a Facebook album for all to see, and a winning logo will be announced as part of Astorino’s “Dads Take Your Child to School Day” kickoff in September.
