August J. Tenore Obituary, WWII Vet

August J. Tenore, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died on March 15,2015, after a brief illness. He was 89.

August was born on May 12, 1925 in New Rochelle to the late Gus and Lena (Tortorella) Tenore.

He graduated from New Rochelle High School and went on to serve in the Army as a Sergeant stationed in Okinawa during WWII. Upon his return home, he went on to work for over 40 years at Neptune Worldwide Moving Co. After retiring from Neptune, Augie worked for over 20 years in the auditing department at Playland Finally, after leaving Playland he spent the last nine years working at his son’s funeral home where he took great pride in working with both his son and grandson, until the day before entering the hospital in January.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Marie DeMelia; his son Stephen P. Tenore; his grandson Robert P. Smillie and his son-in-law Robert Smillie. He is predeceased by his daughter Karen Smillie who died in 2006, his son Kenneth who died suddenly 2 months ago and his brother Carmine.

He is also survived by 2 nephews and a niece.

Visiting hours will be at his son’s funeral home Monday and Tuesday from 5-8 pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc. 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle, NY. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday 9:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery.
