Bob Cox and Hatred Towards Him

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

I remember my father said once, "Half the people in this world are going to like you, the other half is not. " He said this when I was upset that a group of boys didn't like me.

I recently saw a group page to, "..Boycott this site.." and I read many of the comments. I also read many of the comments made towards Bob Cox, spewing violent threats, etc. Well, naturally, many people are going to be offended by Bob's stance, opinions, reporting of corruption and so many other things. Whether you like Bob or not…. we need Bob. If we don't have Bob, who's going to report the ongoing corruption that infests our city and robs our tax dollars? The picture scandal…. I believe Bob could have handled this better, but the threats and emails full of hatred certainly didn't help. I didn't think the pictures were insulting or demeaning. A young man lost his life. I didn't see open wounds, blood pouring down the street. However, I agree that Bob should have been more sensitive to the family's wishes, right or wrong. The next time you want to bash Bob's head in, try to consider, we need someone like Bob to report the infestations of people like Procopio who reportedly robs the Casa Calabria out of thousands of dollars, who reportedly pockets thousands of dollars in donations with no certificate of a legitimate non-profit organization. We need him to report the little scurrying rats in City Hall who gives them selves raises and denies all the working class legitmate salaries.

Thank you, Bob Cox for being there for us. I will continue to read your newsworthy site everyday. And for all the low class people who will say that I hide behind a nickname and don't give my name…. is because I really don't care to hear from you…. life's too short.

  1. courage and honor trump weakness and hubris

Bob, we have some fairly interesting disagreements in form and style, but that pales before your willingness to lay it all out there for everyone to see.

you have my respect. you do not hide your name. i think if you ran a forum, for example on the school board functioning, you would make it a point to include critics as well as supporters.

you have provided a fine public service to the community and there are not too many of us that can claim that distinction.

most important, you have put the lie to the "unspoken" lie; that downtowners like correspondents to this blog, anonymous or otherwise, would and could make major contributiions to this city. you will see as the real naysayers will see, that the future of New Rochelle rests largely with those who fight for it, support or criticize it, but most important, are willing to accept rejection and non-invitation from the city fathers.

so it will happen otherwise. and it willl happen because you provided a forum, took a lot of rejection, made your mistakes like we all make, and pushed forward. your courage is unquestioned and you seem to be willing to eschew the error of the more intelligent young people, especially in politics, of unreestrained hubris or pride. most never get out of that trap once in it; john edwards, to name one, comes to mind. you are out of it i think and are finding your way past the pain and anger we all experience through rejection.

best to you and simply, thank you

  2. If it weren’t for Bob Cox, we

If it weren't for Bob Cox, we would have nothing but the filtered stories NR wants us to hear.  They are experts at controlling the release of info so that everything that gets out paints them in a favorable light.  When the trash is exposed, they go into a defensive mode and try to kill the messenger–and that is exactly what they have been trying to do to Bob Cox.  I praise him for his self-control and restraint.  He is truly the voice of the people and if the City was as reputable as they claim to be, they would appreciate Bob and not fear him.

  3. Thank You

Thank you Bob for this site. You have enabled many to have a voice and that is very important.

  4. No time to hate, but plenty of time of love Bob!

What's up w/the NR Dems & there sudden embrace to stiffel freedom of speech?

Why do they need to see names?  So they can pursue & hound people that don't think what they think 24/7?  Or blacklist them off the PTA or baseball coaching?  Pretty freightening to me.  We all saw what they were capable of doing in the last election.  Smear smear and more smear.  Who has the time?  Not me that's for sure.

As for Bob, I agree w/about 75% of what he has to say but we're all free to debate 100% of what he and anyone else says, no holds barred.  And that means anyone & everyone, all you need is an email account.

And if there's no debate, there's no fresh ideas or creativity being generated to the many problems that face our community.  When the party & government stiffle debate, that sounds a lot like communism to me, where no ones allowed to dissent.

We all owe a great many thanks to Bob for creating and running this site. No time to hate, but plenty of time of love Bob!

    1. We all don’t have to agree, just get along

I also say Kudos to Bob and Talk of the Sound.

As you said, we don’t have to agree with 100% of what is said. It has given everyone a venue to get their opinions out there for people to hear, see and yes debate. Maybe some not as politely and informed as others. But they can still make their point. It is working because now you see that more of the local networks are now picking up and covering stories about New Rochelle. Good with the bad. Heck even the Journal News is printing more about what is happening in New Rochelle. It is not that we wish for the press coverage. But now maybe things around here will get looked at more closely by the City Council and the managers and department heads for the city. Freedom of speech is a valuable asset. But so is listening and communicating. That is how we will get this city back on the right track. After all we are the city of Thomas Pain and Common Sense.

      Keep the conversation going!
