The planning process for the update of the City of New Rochelle’s Comprehensive Plan will begin with a series of public meetings in June.
Called “EnvisioNR” (“Envision New Rochelle”), the Comprehensive Plan process will give opportunity to the public to weigh in on important issues, including land use, economic development and housing. The resulting plan will provide a framework to guide future development and preservation that reflects current and anticipated environmental, economic and social conditions. The June meetings, held City-wide, are the first step in public engagement.
Growth is coming! Based on metropolitan growth projections, New Rochelle’s population is expected to grow in the next 20 years. The Comprehensive Plan becomes the tool for how and where to accommodate such residential growth, along with how to attract and increase our retail and commercial base.
Why plan now?
New Rochelle is part of a larger region that is constantly evolving. The City needs to position itself and determine its role in order to maximize economic opportunity. The last Comprehensive Plan was in 1995.
To learn more and to get involved, the public is invited to attend kick-off meetings to be held throughout the City in June. The format for each meeting is identical and will contain an overview of the Comprehensive Plan process followed by interactive sessions of facilitated dialogue with the audience.
Meetings are scheduled as follows:
Wednesday, June 6 Mascaro Boys & Girls Club 5:30 PM-7:30PM, 79 Seventh Street
Thursday, June 7 New Rochelle YMCA 5:30 PM-7:30PM, 50 Weyman Avenue
Friday, June 8 New Rochelle City Hall 10 AM-2 PM, Youth Bureau Conference Room, 265 Clove Road
