Civil Service Watch: New Rochelle Civil Service Meeting – November 21, 2012

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

The CSC discussed the position of Executive Director of Section 8 Department. Five people have already applied and interviewed for the position and no one has been selected as of yet. The CSC stated that it wanted to continue its recruitment efforts so that more people could be interviewed before a final selection is made.

At the September 26, 2012 CSC meeting, former Development Commissioner Micheal Freimuth indicated that the job of the Executive Director of Section 8 has a lot of “demands” that requires unique “skill sets.” He therefore asked the CSC to recruit for the position “throughout te region” so the best possible candidate could be selected. The CSC disagreed and wanted to continue recruitng in New Rochelle only for the time being.

Additionally, two employees of the Section 8 Department attended the November 21, 2012 meeting. Before it began, one of the employees, a woman who had interviewed for the position but was not selected, expressed concerns that promotional opportunities were not being fairly awarded to internal emmployees. The two women wished to address the Commission but no public comments were taken.

Other meeting highlights included the appointment of six probationary firefighters, a mechanics helper, a sanitation worker, and two part-time crossing guards. Additionally, the Customer Service Rep (bi-lingual spanish) list was extended until November 21, 2013, and a test date of December 1, 2012 was set for a Senior Account Typist. Job Specs for an Adiministrative Assistant to the Library Director were discussed. The Commission stated that it wanted candidates to possess a degree in accounting in order to be eligible for the position.

The next Civil Service Commission Meeting is scheduled for December 19, 2012.

  1. Section 8 employees with the experience get denied the position!
Wow! Hey Mr. Cox, you want a good story about more lies and deceit in City Hall? Call the Section 8 Office, speak to the people in that office about who City Hall hired to run the department!! The lady doesn’t even live in New Rochelle!! And now, the workers in Section 8 were told this lady was hired as a ” consultant”. WHY.????

Maybe it’s so she can get a New Rochelle address before they give her the actual position!! 30 years + worth of experience between the 2 section 8 employees who applied for the job and City Hall says nah, we’ll go elsewhere. What City Hall doesn’t realize is that every time they pass on an opportunity to promote from within, it kills morale, affects pensions, and the everydayl lives of our employees! So, why would City Hall do this?? Hope you shed some light on this latest fiasco!!
