Detective Michael O’Rourke Receives New Rochelle Police Commissioner’s Award

MichaelORourkeDetective Michael O’Rourke was appointed to the Department in August 1993, and is currently assigned to the General Investigations Unit. He is the recipient of the Police Commissioner’s Award, six Class C Citations, four Commendation Awards, one Special Incident Citation and received the Municipal Housing Authority Award in 2008. On April 28th, Detective O’Rourke was assigned to investigate an armed home invasion robbery. The victim, a New Rochelle resident with a business in the Bronx, had apparently been targeted by a robbery crew which assaulted him and robbed him at gunpoint of over $25,000 in jewelry and cash. Detective O’Rourke conducted a painstaking but diligent canvass of pawnshops in the Bronx and located a $14,000 watch from the robbery. Further investigation led to an arrest of a suspect. For his outstanding work in this investigation as well as his consistent performance, Detective Michael O’Rourke was designated Officer of the Month for April 2011.

Each year, as part of National Police Week each May, the City of New Rochelle acknowledges outstanding police officers and units. The 2012 New Rochelle Police Department Awards Ceremony was held at the Greentree County Club on May 16th.
