Ellen T. Gilbride Obituary

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Gilbride, Ellen (Morrissey) Gilbride of New Rochelle died peacefully on April 10 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Ellen, known as Eileen to her friends and family, was born in 1930 in Rathkeale, County Limerick, Ireland. Eileen emigrated to the US as a young woman and initially worked as a nanny. She met and was married to Andrew Gilbride for 47 years and together they raised four children.

Eileen and Andrew had many close friends in the New Rochelle community, and loved to celebrate their Irish heritage and traditions with them. Later in life, Eileen worked for several years as a manager at the College of New Rochelle where she was known as “Mrs. G” to a generation of college students. Many of the students considered her to be their second Mom, with one class dedicating the college yearbook to her. Eileen lit up the room with her beautiful blue eyes and Irish brogue. Her family will miss her dearly and will cherish her memory forever. 

Eileen is survived by her children, Cathy (Stephen) Foley, Rye, NY, Patricia (Edward) Davey, Pelham Manor, NY, Andrew (Jennifer) Gilbride, Westhampton, NY, and Eileen (Kyle) Mickas, White Plains, NY; her nine grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kara Anne, Clare, Megan, Madeline, Michael, Allison, Emily and Maggie Shea; her two great grandchildren: Stephen and Nora; her siblings Breda, Michael, and Thomas of County Limerick, Ireland, and her sister, Mary of Surrey, England; and many nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased in death by her husband, Andrew. Visitation with family will be on Tuesday, April 12 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc., 16 Shea Pl., New Rochelle, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Blessed Sacrament Church, New Rochelle, NY at 10:30am on Wednesday, April 13. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 95 Kings Highway, New Rochelle, NY.
