GETTING RESULTS: New Rochelle School District Bans Contractor Over Davis Asbestos Exposure Incident

Written By: Robert Cox

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The City School District of New Rochelle banned George R. Wood Plumbing from District work after an asbestos exposure incident at a New Rochelle elementary school, according to Interim Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Korostoff.

Korostoff was responding to a report earlier today on Talk of the Sound which raised questions about questionable bids from George R. Wood Plumbing and T & G Electric.

New Rochelle Schools Contractor Behind Flag Pole Painting and Asbestos Exposure Low Bidder on 3 of 4 District Contracts

The release of toxic material at Davis Elementary School last July was first reported on Talk of the Sound.

With George R. Wood Plumbing deemed not to be the “lowest responsive and responsible bidder”, the Carpentry contract would likely be awarded to David Lapore and the Plumbing contract would likely be awarded to Eddie Burke Plumbing.

George R. Wood Plumbing was the sole bidder for the Painter contract so it would have to be re-bid.

The current blanket contracts will end on May 6, 2014.
