GETTING RESULTS: New Rochelle School District Pays Fine for Asbestos Incident at Davis School -- 11 Months Late

The City School District of New Rochelle paid a $6,500 assessed by the New York State Department of Labor after the District was issued a notice of violation related to an asbestos incident at the George M. Davis Jr. Elementary School in New Rochelle, NY.

Also issued violation notices were two district employees — Sal Poretto and Tony Sinkfield - along with two district contractors and the employees of one of the contractors. One of the contractors was cited for producing a forged asbestos handling license.

The Notice of Violation including the $6,500 fine was issued on August 28, 2013. On April 23, 2014, the New York State Department of Labor sent a Demand Letter to the City School District of New Rochelle for non-payment of the fine. The District was put on notice that it had 90 days to make payment or the matter would be referred to the New York State Attorney.

Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne, responding to an email on July 29th inquiring whether the fine had been paid told Talk of the Sound that the a payment was made in the amount of $6,500 to the NY State Department of Labor on July 31, 2014 pertaining to Davis Elementary School - two days after our inquiry and more than 11 months late.
