Guilty Verdict in New Rochelle Home Invasion at Off-Campus Housing of Iona College Students

November 10, 2011 - 22:25

RalphReddingWestchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced today that Ralph Redding (DOB 07/16/88) of 89 Horton Avenue, New Rochelle, was found guilty following a jury trial of two counts of Burglary in the First Degree, Class “B” Violent Felonies, one count of Robbery in the First Degree, Class “B” Violent Felonies, one count of Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “C” Violent Felony, two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Class “D” Violent Felonies, and one count of Assault in the Third Degree, a Class “A” Misdemeanor, relating to his primary role in an armed home invasion.

On December 14, 2010, at approximately 12:30 am, Redding and two co-defendants who previously pled guilty, Chad Jones (DOB 8/28/87) and Sean Gray (DOB 9/6/89), all approached a home on 43 Treno Street in New Rochelle.

Redding, who posed as a pizza deliveryman, tricked an occupant of the residence into letting him inside. Once inside, Redding pointed a handgun at the occupant who had let him in. There were four additional people in the living room of the home at the time. Jones and Gray followed Redding inside the residence.

The men demanded money and demanded to be brought to another occupant who was on the second floor inside a bedroom. Redding held the bedroom’s occupant at gunpoint while Gray searched the room, locating a cashbox containing $800. During the course of the events Redding struck and injured the bedroom with what appeared to be a handgun.

The defendants left the residence with the cash, and the New Rochelle Police began an investigation which resulted in their arrests: defendant Jones on January 8, 2010; defendant Redding on January 17, 2011; and defendant Gray on February 3, 2011.

Redding faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in state prison when sentenced on December 22, 2011.

Previously on October 19, 2011, defendant Jones pled guilty to one count of Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Violent Felony. Jones will be sentenced on December 15, 2011 and faces between 2 to 7 years in state prison.

Defendant Gray pled guilty on October 31, 2011, to one count of Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “C” Violent Felony. Sentencing is scheduled for January 5, 2012 and faces between 3 ½ to 15 years in state prison.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Paula Branca-Santos of the Superior Court Trial Division is prosecuting the case.
