NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Iona College men’s soccer head coach Fernando Barboto announced the hiring of James Hamilton and Scott Hawkins as new assistant coaches.

Hamilton previously served as associate head coach at Dominican College in New York, where he helped the coach with planning and running training. In addition, his responsibilities included implementing seasonal conditioning programs, and assisting with game day team selection.

Hamilton attended Dominican where he received a bachelor's of science in marketing management. As a player, Hamilton was a four year starter and two year captain for Dominican, where he won one conference championship and made two NCAA tournament appearances. Hamilton has worked with several NJ clubs, and was most recently the head coach of the U16 Elite and Premier Boys at World Class FC NY.

A Scotland native, Hamilton will bring an international perspective to Iona. At Dominican, he also helped implement game day warm ups, analyze potential student athletes at tournaments, and monitored academic progress of all players.

Hawkins joins the Gaels from Lafayette College in Easton, PA as an assistant coach. He was in charge of foreign recruiting, responsible for analyzing game film, and working with goalkeepers and forwards. In addition, Hawkins tracked players study hall hours, organized study hall reports, and assisted with the organization of soccer camps.

A Morristown, NJ native, Hawkins attended Lafayette, and graduated in May 2008 with a bachelor's in business and economics and minored in government and law. His accolades include the Charles L. Albert Lafayette College Athlete of the Year Award, two Regional All-American honors, and an NCAA Scholar All-American recognition in 2006.
