Iona MBB Senior Tre Bowman Named MAAC Player of the Week

EDISON, NJ - Iona College men's basketball senior guard Tre Bowman was named MAAC Player of the Week for his performance in the Gaels' decisive win at Florida Gulf Coast University Sunday. It is the first weekly honor for Bowman since his arrival last season.

Bowman poured in a career-high 29 points and shot 84.6% from the field to lead Iona to a convincing 90-72 win over 2013 Sweet 16 darling and Mid-Major Poll No. 11 FGCU. Bowman shot 11-of-13 overall from the field and was 4-of-6 (66.7%) from long distance in the win. He also added five rebounds, three steals and two assists. It was third 20+ point effort of his career at Iona and first since hitting the mark and leading the Gaels to a MAAC Championship game victory over Manhattan in March.

Bowman's efforts were not only prolific but opportune. His first three-pointer on the day capped Iona's decisive 12-2 run with four and a half minutes remaining. His second gave the Gaels their largest lead of the first half with 1:19 on the clock. Early in the second half, he drained his third trifecta to answer back-to-back daggers by FGCU and stop the Eagles early momentum in the frame. The three-pointer also began a stretch where he scored 15 of Iona's first 19 points in the second half including a steal at midcourt and a thunderous breakaway slam in #DunkCity to give the Maroon & Gold a 20 point advantage with 11:58 left in the contest.

The Gaels earned back-to-back MAAC Player of the Week honors after classmate Sean Armand picked up the honor on Nov. 25. Iona has been honored now 21 times with a MAAC weekly award in the three-plus seasons under head coach Tim Cluess.

The Maroon & Gold is in action in two MAAC contests this week hosting Marist at the Hynes Center Wednesday (Dec. 4) at 7:00 pm and traveling to Fairfield Sunday (Dec. 8) in an afternoon tilt with the Stags. Join the Gaels Wednesday night as they honor the 2012-13 squad with the unveiling of the MAAC Championship banner.
