NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- It's been quite a month for Johns Hopkin's senior Michael Longo '11. In early November he was named to the Capital One Academic All-District II Football Team for the second consecutive year. The week of Thanksgiving, he was named the Centennial Conference's Defensive Player of the Year.

Longo is the sixth Johns Hopkins player to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors and this is the second straight year he has earned First Team All-Centennial honors. He currently ranks third on the team in tackles (49) and leads the team in tackles for losses (13.5) and sacks (10.0) and also counts two pass breakups and one fumble recovery to his credit. In his career he has 139 tackles, 33.5 tackles for losses and 22.5 sacks.

Longo is majoring in public health and has a 3.74 cumulative GPA. He spent more than three weeks in Uganda last January doing Public Health research, has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, completed a Clinical Practicum with an Orthopaedic Surgeon, and has served as a Research Assistant at Baltimore Station South studying substance abuse.

To be eligible for Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
