NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College volleyball team earned its fourth sweep of the season with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-17) win at Manhattan this afternoon, moving to 9-7 in MAAC play this season.

Claire Archibald led the offensive attack for the Gaels (11-17, 9-7 MAAC) with 15 kills on a .452 hitting percentage to go along with a team-high 11 digs and two aces. Shaina Campbell led the defensive effort with six total blocks, three solo and three assisted, while also adding six kills and two assists. Emma Rose set the offense for 34 assists to pair with seven digs. Jamie Smith contributed 10 digs, seven kills and three blocks assists.

Olyiva Chaltas and Sandra Lozanova each led the Jaspers (2-26, 2-13 MAAC) with eight kills apiece while Taylor Hasley collected 20 assists. Alyssa Rehrer notched a match-high 15 digs.

In the opening set, the Maroon & Gold broke a 10-10 tie with five straight points before extending the lead to 17-11 following a Smith ace. After Manhattan cut the deficit to 17-13, the Gaels ended the set on an 8-3 run that a pair of service aces, one each from Rose and Archibald. Archibald recorded four kills while Alexandra Russo posted two aces in the frame.

Iona created a 12-3 lead in the second game as Tess Connolly finished a Rose set, the eighth kill in the opening stretch. The opening margin proved beneficial as the lead grew to its largest of the set on the final point with Mia Bonsignore closing out the game at 25-14 on a solo block. Archibald posted another four kills in the frame as Rose tallied 11 assists. Smith, Connolly and Bonsignore all put forth three kills each while Bonsignore added three blocks and Campbell notched four.

Led by a .467 hitting percentage with seven kills from Archibald, the Gaels put forth a .325 hitting percentage in the third set towards 18 kills while coming up with 19 digs to offset 31 attempt from the Jaspers. Tied at 15, Iona created a 22-17 advantage and finished off the set and match with three straight points starting with a Campbell kill and two errors from Manhattan

Iona steps out of conference play tomorrow afternoon with a 1:00 pm home match against UMass Lowell with Senior Day to be held during a pregame ceremony.
