NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library has reopened the Memorial Street doors to the building. The newly refurbished, greatly improved doorway now includes automatic doors to accommodate wheelchairs and strollers, a foyer and a book drop.
On Monday, May 2nd, the library’s Lawton Street doorway will be closed for construction. This doorway will also be completely refurbished with energy-efficient, ADA compliant doors and a new protective awning. Completion is expected in Fall 2016.
During the construction the only wheelchair-accessible entrance will be the reopened Memorial Highway doors, which have a ramp leading down to them from street level. There will be additional handicapped-designated parking spaces on Memorial Highway. The only book drop at the main library will also be located by this doorway. Patrons may also return books by using the book drop at the Hugh Doyle Center at 94 Davis Avenue, or in front of the Huguenot Children’s Library, located on North Avenue in front of New Rochelle High School.
