NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Freshman Alex Masai was the first non-Division I (NCAA) competitor to cross the line in the Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State University, claiming first place and leading a pack of four Top-5 finishers for the Mustangs, who claimed first place as a team after an impressive showing on Saturday.

Masai's time of 26:04.60 was the best among non-Division I competitors, but was also good for second for all male runners at Saturday's meet. Freshman Thapelo Makofane took second with a time of 27:41.70, while sophomore James Majenge finished third at 28:52.50. Freshman Lizo Sibeko crossed fifth overall with a time of 29:13.80.

Sophomore Kasique Oliver added an 11th-place finish for Monroe, finishing in 30:51.10. Daniel Martin was not far behind, crossing the line at 31:24.60 to take 13th place.

The Mustangs will look to keep the momentum rolling when they host the Monroe Homecoming Meet at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Thursday, Oct. 5. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m.
