NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s soccer team kept its unbeaten streak alive with a 5-1 win over Massassoit Community College in New Rochelle on Saturday.  The team is now 5-0-1 on the season and has won four straight games.

Jaime Hincliffe led the team with a pair of goals.  He opened the scoring for Monroe when he ran up to a long ball from Mamdou Balde and beat the keeper to the far side to put the Mustangs on the board.  Three minutes later, Massassoit tied the score with their lone goal in the game.  The score stayed level at 1-1 until the 35th minute when Niall Smith scored the game-winner.  Smith got the ball on the right side of the 18-yard box, turned on the speed and outran some defenders.  He then beat the keeper on a ridiculous angle from down low in the box on a shot that bent inside the far post.  Less than three minutes later, Kalifa Sylla scored an unassisted marker to make the score 3-1.  The Mustangs led by that score at the half.

Monroe scored twice more in the second 45 to earn the 5-1 win.  Sylla played the ball ahead for Hinchcliffe who collected his second goal of the game at 54:00.  The final goal of the game came from Jorge Paez, whom connected on his second goal of the season.

The #1 ranked Monroe College men’s soccer team returns to action on Thursday, September 24, when they face Globe Tech in Brooklyn.  The kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
