The NAACP’s New Rochelle Branch has launched its first ever web site — www.newrochellenaacp.org. The web site is integrated with social media services including Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and YouTube.
The NAACP New Rochelle Branch is one of the oldest branches in the United States.
The site contains information about the New Rochelle Branch, events, awareness of the organization, history and much more.
The hope is that by offering new ways for younger members to discover and interact with the Branch while reinforcing the existing communications infrastructure which relies on more traditional means of communication. There is an interactive time line for the NAACP, a membership application form, and additional information.
Perhaps the most interesting information on the site is a link to a series of articles on the history of the Lincoln School case. The 50th anniversary is coming up soon (January 24, 1961 is the decision day). They are hoping the site will encourage residents to come forward with their own photos, documents and help fill out the history of the chapter.
Ron Williams, the President of the NAACP New Rochelle Branch, brought the project forward. Not a big internet user himself, Williams saw the need to reach out and broaden the reach of the organization. LaTasha Hamlett is serving as the social media and internet guru for the chapter.
