New Rochelle Police Blotter – July 23, 2015

Trespassing at Public Housing Complex: New Rochelle police observed a man enter the apartment at 51 Winthrop Avenue at about 1 a.m. on July 20th.

Christian Serrano was observed enter the building and respond to the sixth floor where he spoke with a man then went to the fifth floor. Police overheard Serrano tell a man on the fifth floor “this shit better be good, I’m paying for this so this shit better be real good”. Serrano and the unknown man then exited incident location and went in separate directions.

When Serrano was stopped by police in the parking lot of 51 Winthrop he claimed he was cutting through the parking lot to get to his car on Horton Avenue. Serrano denied being inside 51 Winthrop or knowing anyone in the building but admitted to having the conversations observed by police inside the building. Serrano was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass 3rd.

Huffy Mountain Bike Swiped: New Rochelle police responded to a report of a past larceny at an apartment building in New Rochelle at about 11 p.m. on July 19th.

Complainant told police when he returned home from work, at approximately 10:30 p.m. he noticed that his bicycle was missing, and that the lock used to secure the bicycle, in the backyard, had been clipped. He also stated that when he entered his building, he was approached by a neighbor who stated that his friends had taken the bicycle and offered his own bicycle as a replacement for the stolen bicycle. The neighbor could not be identified or located.

The bicycle is a black Huffy mountain bike worth approximately thirty dollars.

Mad Rag Rip-Off: New Rochelle police responded to a report of a larceny at MadRag clothing store located at 481 Main Street in New Rochelle at about 4:30 pm on July 19th.

Complainant told police that she observed an older male/black wearing a grey shirt stuffing merchandise into a black plastic bag. When she asked the suspect to look in his bag he resisted and walked out of the store stating “I don’t have to show you nothing”. The complainant gave chase while another person at the store called the police.

Bennett Young was apprehended by police at 16 Locust Avenue as he attempted to place the black bag in a recycling container. In his possession were wire cutters. Young was taken to police headquarters where he was identified by the complainant. She also positively identified the black bag and its contents as merchandise stolen from Mad Rag. Young was charged with Petit Larceny, a Class A misdemeanor, and Possession of Burglar Tools, a Class A misdemeanor.

Car Ransacked 1: New Rochelle police responded to a report of a larceny from a motor vehicle on Coutant Drive in New Rochelle shortly before noon on July 19th.

Complainant stated her vehicle was parked securely at 5 p.m. on July 18th in the driveway. The vehicle has a automatic locking system that had to be circumvented to gain access to the interior. The unknown suspect rifled the interior. There were no pry marks or damage to the key cylinders. There were no suspects or witnesses located.

Ten dollars in quarters concealed in the front console were stolen.

Car Ransacked 2: New Rochelle police responded to a report of a larceny from a motor vehicle on Coutant Drive in New Rochelle shortly before 9 a.m. on July 19th. 

Complainant stated someone had rummaged through her vehicle and stolen her purse containing assorted credit cards. The vehicle had been left unlocked and was last observed intact at 10:30 pm on July 17th. Camplainant was advised to contact her credit card providers to inform them of what had transpired in order to have them cancel her respective credit cards

Car Ransacked 3: New Rochelle police responded to a report of a larceny from two motor vehicles at one location in New Rochelle shortly before 8 a.m. on July 19th. 

Complainants stated they last used their cars at about 11 p.m. on July 18th. They found their vehicles ransacked at about 7:30 a.m. Neither vehicle was locked. An iPad was stolen from one of the vehicles.
