The rear window of a New Rochelle police car was shot out while driving down North Avenue near the New Rochelle Transportation Center (otherwise known as the train station).

Police Officer Francesco Provenzale was driving Car 21 in Sector 4 during the day tour. The incident occurred at 10:19 AM. There was a small hole in the rear window. Police believe that projectile was either a pellet from a pellet gun or a bullet from a .22 caliber rifle or pistol.

Numerous police officers immediately converged on the scene, according to witnesses. The initial belief was the shots were fired from 309 or 311 North Avenue because that is where the officer stopped the car after the shot was fired.

According to the building’s owner, there are 8 units that face the street, several are vacant and one of the belongs to Rico Johnson. The building owner told Talk of the Sound he cooperated fully with the police.

It is also possible that the shot was fired from the parking garage or a nearby building. A .22 rifle can fire a shot over half a mile so there is no way to be certain where the shot came from.

UPDATE: In response to a previous article on the repeated vandalizing of the parking pay stations in the library parking lot, City spokesperson Kathy Gilwit explained why the installation of security cameras approved by City Council has yet to occur — “the cameras are funded through a grant and that grant has not been processed yet.”

  1. Remember this quote, when
Remember this quote, when criminals sit in political seats crime runs rapid within the city’s veins.

To bad New Rochelle residents keep voting “Business as Ususal” by keeping Bramson as Mayor along with all the other City Council Bramson Yes Men.

New Rochelle will need to die before it can be born again. To bad we all have to live through political greed and corruption in the mean time.

New Rochelle is no longer the Queen City of the Sound, it’s now the slut face down in the gutter.

Thanks again Noam for making New Rochelle what it is today.

  2. RE: Despite the ” promises” chaos and crime rule New Rochelle.
I agree with the previous posters, ” The New Rochelle police can not catch a cold” because they are stifled by the current delusional administration which sits in city hall. All one has to do is look at the long list of crimes that have been committed over the past 18 plus months to see that a pattern of utter chaos and crime has taken root in downtown New Rochelle a.k.a. ” the inferno of southern Westchester”. The current mayor and his inept cronies have enabled this chaos and do not have the drive nor the courage to counter it. As the previous posters pointed out so very well, they are merely in city hall to line their pockets and help their friends and allies at the expense of the law abiding tax paying citizenry. During the campaign, promise
s and platitudes aplenty will come out of the
current malignant narcissist mayor and his ‘flying
monkeys” ( henchmen)as they distract the voters
from real issues such as crime, safety, and security and focus solely on the personal lives of
opponents nothing will be done at all. Yesterday, it was a pellet shot through a window. Was it dismissed as a random shot? Or some idle child’s prank? Or was it meant to send a message to
law abiding citizens or officers that their is no security in New Rochelle at all because chaos and crime really rule here? One wonders?

  3. Thank Noam Bramson & Chuck Strome
NRPD can’t even catch a cold. Not because of the lack of experience, but due to the lack of necessary man power and equipment need to fight crime. Noam Bramson & Chuck Strome along with all the other North End resident politicians have yet to sign a contract with NRPD and refuse to issue the funds needed to hire new police officers. NRPD is currently 15 police officers short of full roster. All the politicians know of the serious under staffing but they still sleep at night with their pockets lined with taxpayers money. As for the cameras nicely perched on traffic light polls, don’t hold your breath of them capturing anything, most of them aren’t even functioning properly. Thanks Noam for making New Rochelle such a safe family friendly place to live. NOT!!!

  4. news 12
News 12 is reporting that there are cameras in the area. They are wrong the so called cameras they are showing and talking about are traffic sensors. New Rochelle city council cannot agree when and where to put cameras. What a joke
