Things are not looking up for Anthony Newman, a glazier in the Buildings and Grounds Department of the City School District of New Rochelle has been accused of sexually assaulting a fellow employee, a woman who is close relative of a senior government official in the New Rochelle City government. Newman was suspended for 30 days, with pay, over the summer, pending a hearing into the allegations.
Diamond Glass of New Rochelle was awarded a $45,000 contract for in-house window repair and replacement. The company will provide for the purchase and delivery of specifically listed miscellaneous glass, glazing related materials, window hardware, and Lexan supplies. This contract would replace the services previously provided by Anthony Newman.
Last month, the New Rochelle Board of Education approved a resolution for a Special Hearing which is for Mr. Newman, sources say. Newman is likely to be terminated as a result of the hearing.
Newman's job has been on the chopping block numerous times but each time he has been retained through the intervention of union chief Martin Daly. Newman sits on the F.U.S.E. Welfare Fund board which manages money provided by the district to pay for certain services for union members such as eyeglasses and dental care.
