New Rochelle’s United Veterans Memorial and Patriotic Association ( UVMPA ) are proudly sponsoring the “We Remember” Memorial Day Parade and Picnic in Hudson Park, where festivities kick off at 10;30am on May 26th 2014 at Memorial Plaza and Main Street. A brief Ceremony and Memorial Day service mark the beginning of a spectacular day showing our gratitude and support of all our veterans past and present. Memorial Day is the day in which those who lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed forces are remembered. Our freedom is not free. Peter Parente, President of the UVMPA along with the City of New Rochelle and countless others all put their hearts, souls and patriotism together into organizing this incredible event so please come out and show your pride for our troops.
Line the sidewalks and join the parade that heads down North Avenue to Pelham Road and into what will be a fantastic picnic and BBQ in Hudson Park catered by New Rochelle’s one and only AJ’s Burgers and the famous Pronto Pizza & Pasta. Both restaurants team up with our local veterans to cook up some of the greatest tasting food in New Rochelle, along with serving beer, soda and water for everyone in the park, all for special low prices.
Make a day of it and bring lawn chairs and blankets and kick off summer in the park. At approximately 1pm, a brief service will be held for those lost at sea later followed by all day live entertainment in the Band shell. American Bombshells Entertainment will be wowing the crowds bringing everyone to their feet singing their gorgeous tributes to our military, proudly singing and lifting spirits. Bands like 3rd Stone will be playing along with Arts and Crafts, Face Painting, Games, Potato Sac Races, Tug of Wars, Displays and lots to do. Be sure to stay and watch a USMC Attack Cobra Helicopter land in Hudson Park and stay for a static display at 2pm sharp.
This Saturday. May 24th at 10am Volunteers will be meeting at Ward Acres Barn to help with the floats. All volunteers are welcomed to come help. Volunteers are also invited to help with set up in the park at 7am at Hudson Park on Memorial Day morning.
There will be a Ceremony at Holy Sepulchre followed by the annual replacing of the American Flags on veterans graves on Sunday May 25th at 9:30am at Holy Sepulchre and Beechwood Cemeteries. The event is open to the public and a great time to bring your friends and children to participate. This Ceremony is a great reminder to keep pride in being American and respecting those who served in our Armed Forces.
