Obituary: Ann L. Spelman (1923 – 2012)

Ann L. Spelman (nee: Libbey), 89, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, passed away on June 21, 2012 at the United Hebrew Home in New Rochelle after a long illness. She moved to New Rochelle in 1923 and resided in the same house until 2005. In her youth, she was a champion swimmer for the Milton Point Casino in Rye. She attended New Rochelle schools and graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1940. She also attended Skidmore College. She was married in 1947 to Dr. Thomas J. Spelman who passed away in 1952. She taught third grade for many years at the Holy Family School in New Rochelle. She was also a real estate associate in Pelham and New Rochelle. She is survived by her two sons, Thomas J. Spelman, Jr., William M. Spelman, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Robert E. (“Big Lou”) Spelman and her brother, Robert Townsend Libbey. The family will receive friends at the Fox Funeral Home on Sunday, June 24th, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Hebrew Home in New Rochelle.
