Obituary: Doris MacArthur (1918 – 2012)

NewImageDoris E. MacArthur a life long resident of New Rochelle passed away Tuesday April 24, 2012. She was 93 years old. Born in New Rochelle on August 28, 1918 she was the daughter of George D. and Clara McKay Enright. Doris was a graduate of New Rochelle High School and worked in the accounting department and a executive secretary with Lowes International Entertainment Company. She worked for Lowes during the entertainment era when the Red Carpet Premier events took place at the New Rochelle Lowes Theater on Main Street. She retired in 1981 after 38 years of employment. On June 19, 1960 Doris married Donald MacArthur at the Holy Name Of Jesus Church. Donald predeceased her in 1994. She was also predeceased by her brother’s Robert in 1935 and Daniel II who was killed on August 4, 1944 while serving his country in the Army. Doris kept very active and involved in her community throughout her years. She was a Volunteer of over 18 years with the Sound Shore Medical Center, devoted many years of service to the New Rochelle Library and very active with the Drum and Bugle Corp for years. She was an active member with the St. Augustine Sr. Center and enjoyed many travels with that group. Doris also was a generous supporter through donations to St. Jude’s, ASPCA and was a Gold Class member of the Audubon Society. She was also an avid reader and spent many hours working through crossword puzzles. Doris is survived by her sister Elizabeth Periasepe of Washington, D.C. along with her niece Elizabeth J. Reeves of Queens and her nephew Robert Perciasepe also of Washington, D.C.. In keeping with her own arrangements and wishes a private cremation was held.
