Obituary: Jeanne Robinson (1934 – 2012)

Jeanne Robinson, born April 20, 1934, passed away unexpectedly on June 9, 2012 in Washington D.C. where she had resided for over 40 years. Since 2008, she had been a resident of an assisted living facility in Washington, D.C. and was very active in their Resident Art Program. The program director spoke highly of her, both as a person, and her art skills. Jeanne was born in Valhalla. NY, grew up in White Plains, NY, and graduated from W.P. High School in 1952. Jeanne had two brothers, Reginald Robinson and Hubert Maurice Robinson, Sr., both of whom predeceased her several years ago. She was also predeceased by her mother Jessie H. Robinson and father Samson Robinson. Jeanne is survived by a sister Rose Alfrieda Francis of Manhattan, NY, Nephews; Bristol Francis of Manhattan, NY, Barry Francis of North Carolina, Anthony Maurice Robinson of Norfolk, Va., Shawn Robinson of Massachusetts, Hubert Maurice Robinson, Jr. of New Rochelle, NY, Nieces: Shelby Alicia Robinson of New Rochelle, NY, Tracey Robinson of New Rochelle NY, and many Grand nieces and nephews. During Jeanne’s early high school years, she began to sing in Bethel Baptist Church’s choir, it was there when it was discovered that she had talent in singing. She then decided to attend Boston University in 1954 where she was a music major. She graduated in 1958 with a degree in music. After graduation, she moved to Harlem and began to teach school in Bronx, NY. She lived there until she entered Howard University Law School in 1971 graduating in 1975 with a Juris Doctorate. She was a Member of the District of Columbia Bar. Jeanne worked as a defense attorney after graduation and some time later started her own private practice. Jeanne Robinson will always be remembered by her surviving sister, Rose Alfrieda Francis, because of the love, caring and devotion that she had for her family. Jeanne’s place of Service and Interment was at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY on June 16, 2012. She is resting beside her two brothers, Reginald Robinson and Hubert Maurice Robinson, Sr.
