Obituary: Mary Lisk (1923 – 2012)

Mary Elizabeth Lisk, 88, of Danbury, formerly of New Fairfield and New Rochelle, NY, died Wednesday, May 2nd at Glen Hill Care Center. She was the wife of the late Charles Lisk. Born in Webster, MA on June 24, 1923, Mrs. Lisk was a daughter of the late LeeRoy and Lillian Beauregard May. A New Rochelle resident for over 50 years, she was one of the original telephone operators for New York Telephone. In 1963 Mrs. Lisk joined the City of New Rochelle as one of the first woman emergency service dispatchers in the country. She held this position for over 25 years. In New Rochelle she was a previous member of St. Gabriel Church and Holy Family Church. She was also active in the New Fairfield Senior Center. Mrs. Lisk had an amazing sense of humor and generosity of spirit who touched the lives of many people. The perfect grandmother, Mrs. Lisk loved to shop for her entire family. Survivors include her children: Pamela Escott of Danbury, John of West Harrison, NY and Gary and his wife, Mary, of Carmel, NY. Her grandchildren: Mallory, Sarah, Samantha, Matthew, Michael, Thomas and Scott. Her brother: John McDavitt of Brookfield, MA. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her siblings: Julian (Duke) May, George May, John May, LeeRoy May, James P. McDavitt SJ and Joseph May. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30am at St. Peter Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in Beechwoods Cemetery, New Rochelle, NY. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
