NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The offense for the Iona College softball program sputtered Tuesday afternoon in Stockton, CA against Pacific University.  The Gaels fell to 5-11 on the season after a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Tigers of the West Coast Conference.

The Maroon & Gold ended the game with just four hits, and their lone run in the top of the first inning.  Junior Ashlyn Morris started the game with a single, and after an advance to second base, junior Katie Newton was able to single home the Gaels left fielder.  Iona had two of their four hits in the opening frame; the other two hits came from sophomore Courtney Miller in the fifth and seventh innings.

Sophomore Jessica Harkness began in the circle for Iona.  She went 3.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hit on two walks.  Senior Christine Costello came in relief, allowing two runs on four hits and one hit-by-pitch.

Freshman Kenya Lindstrom slated the rubber for the Tigers amicably rebounded from a rough first inning to limit the Iona attack.  The rookie stranded nine runners on base, and struck out five Gael batters.

Iona takes on Sacramento State on Wednesday, March 23, at 3:00 pm ET.
