NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Rekha Liveris, who has a taught science at New Rochelle High School since 2008, has been named the high school Science Department Chairperson. The New Rochelle Board of Education appointed her to the position on June 6.

In her new position, Liveris will be instrumental in advancing the district's STEAM educational initiatives. She will also evaluate science teachers at the school.

"I am proud to have been part of the faculty at New Rochelle High School for the past nine years; I now look forward to continue serving our students, teachers, and the community as an administrator," Liveris said. "I am thankful to the Superintendent's office, the Board of Education, and Principal Reginald Richardson for honoring me with this position. I am also grateful for Mrs. Marselle Heywood, the current chairperson of the Science department, for her support and guidance."

Heywood is retiring after 10 years in the district.

In her teaching position, Liveris took on administrative duties, playing an instrumental role in coordinating the master schedule of teachers and students, and chairing the Education Committee for the New Rochelle High School's accreditation process.

"Rekha is more than just an excellent science teacher; she has shown that she is willing and able to take on administrative functions as well," said Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne. "I can think of no better affirmation that she is prepared to lead the high school science department."
