Roxanne “Roxie” Metz

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

Roxie knew the Bible word by word and verse by verse
chapter by chapter and her way to God and the Kingdom of Heaven is clear.
She went through all her schooling
in New Rochelle and she was one of the first to secure her
Masters degree. She never budged an inch from her foundations
kept her Bible, apartment, phone number, family as best she could, and held her ground despite her health.
Roxanne was always her Momma’s baby And her Daddy’s little girl.
She always’ had talents
a singer and fine artist. Her smile and laughter was unmistakable on the phone
and she connected the
folk-to-the-lore and more with talk of the people from New Rochelle.
For me, she replaced the Standard Star all-by-herself,
kept track of us all, reunited us all again and again; coloring us all with her candor and her love.
Ms. Metz the teacher, was a dynamic-force for students
and their families for three decades in spite of chronic illness.
Roxie loved us and knew all of us richly. She knew also the Bible word by word and verse by verse, chapter by chapter — and her way to God — and the Kingdom of Heaven is clear. Let’s, let that now sadly make headlines in
our proverbial, Standard Star.

  1. Ms. Metz- the kids will truly miss you
My son is 5 years old and adores Ms. Metz. He wants to believe that we are fibbing to him when we told him that Ms. Metz will be shining down on him from Heaven. Roxie Metz devoted her life to encouraging and inspiring her students through Art. She recognized every one of them individually and they felt it, I saw it first hand with my own child. Children’s art is full of promise, expresses beauty, possibilities and freedom. Their creativity is limitless and artistry is bountiful and teaching children that is priceless. Ms. Metz will be greatly missed, but the memories she has left behind are vibrant and beautiful.

    1. Roxie
Roxie was my cousin and like a sister. She carried me through the loss of my mom and wife who passed during childbirth. She had a big smile, a big heart and working prayers for us all.

      1. Roxie
She was my art teacher at Columbus School, we all adored her, and I’m happy to say we became friends via Facebook as adults. Are the funeral services private? We haven’t seen anything in the paper/online and I know a lot of her “kids” want to honor her & support the family.

Heavenly Father, I invite You to dwell in our thoughts, heart and attitude. We choose to follow your example and bring good to others. Help us to be a pure reflection of Your love in everything we do. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
