Salvatore T. Generoso Obituary

Salvatore Generoso a life-long resident of New Rochelle passed away on June 20, 2015. He was born on January 17, 1925 to the late Vincenzo and Marie (Pedicano) Generoso. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He owned and operated the prestigious men’s retail store “The Mannerly Shop” from 1956-1985. He served as chairman of the Civil Service Commission, member of the Planning Board and Board of Assessment. He was appointed as the City Clerk of New Rochelle in 1987. He was an active member of numerous civic and fraternal organizations including the Calabria Society, Knights of Columbus, B.P.O.E. Elks, 4th degree Knights of Columbus, Finance Committee of St. Joseph’s Church, President of the Holy Name Society, Secretary of the Columbian Civic League, President of the Huguenot Lions Club, Chief Ranger of Court Sons of Italy Foresters, President of the Boys Club Alumni Association, Chairman of the New Rochelle Republican Committee, Chairman of the Bellantoni Memorial Committee responsible for the hospital All Faith Chapel. He has been the recipient of the following honors; Outstanding Service Award by the Boys Club, Appreciation Award by St. Joseph’s Holy Name Society, Merit Award by the Lions Club, Hearing Conservation and Work for the Deaf Award and many more.

He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Jean Picone whom he married at St. Joseph’s Church. He is survived by his cherished son James, Chief Court Clerk of New Rochelle, devoted granddaughter Lindsay and beloved daughter-in-law Linda. He is the precious brother of Michael Generoso and of Augusta “Peter Pan” Gurrieri, predeceased by his sisters Lena DeLuca and Florence “Dolly” Williams and brother Accursio “Goose” Generoso and sister-in-law Mary Perone. He is survived by many cherished and devoted nephews, nieces and great-nephews and nieces, who meant the world to him, as well as his devoted caretaker Harriet. Visiting will be Monday 7-9pm and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc. 16 Shea Pl. New Rochelle, NY 10805. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday 10am at St. Joseph’s Church. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, New Rochelle, NY. Donations may be made in Salvatore’s honor to St. Joseph’s Church 280 Washington Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10801.
