Sister Mary Patricia Meiklejohn (1929 – 2012) Former BS & Ursuline Teacher

On November 15, 2012, Sister Mary Patricia Meiklejohn, formerly known as Sister Mary William, died at Sound Shore Medical Center. She was a member of the Ursuline Community of St. Teresa in New Rochelle. Mary Pat entered the Ursulines in 1956, and she made her vows in 1959.

Her years of service were given to teaching in elementary schools. From 1961 to 1963 she taught at Blessed Sacrament School in New Rochelle. She went on to teach at St. Philip Neri in the Bronx and St. Joseph’s in Middletown. She also taught at The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, New Rochelle Catholic Elementary School, Annunciation School in Crestwood, and Pius X School in Tuckahoe. She became Assistant Superior at the Marian Residence in New Rochelle in 1991 to 1994. After that, she tutored at schools in Westchester. Mary Pat held a BS from the University of New Hampshire and an MA from Manhattan College. She did volunteer work for Hope Bible Camp and Hope Food Pantry.

Mary Pat was born on December 24, 1929 to Odianna Portier and William Meiklejohn in Somersworth, New Hampshire. She was predeceased by her parents and 10 siblings; she is survived by a brother, Rev. Norman Meiklejohn, of Fiskdale, Mass., and several nieces and nephews.. Wake will be held at the Ursuline Province Center on Sunday, November 18, 2012, from 2 to 4:30 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Province Center on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 10 A.M. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Retirement Fund, Ursuline Provincialate, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10804-2121.
