Softball Snaps 62 Game Losing Streak; Defeats Pine Manor

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle softball team snapped a 62 game losing streak after picking up its first wins of the season this weekend against Pine Manor College.  The last time CNR earned a victory was April 5th, 2013 against Yeshiva University.

The two teams played a double, double-header on Saturday and Sunday.  CNR took the opening game 9-1 in 5 innings, then dropped game two 15-4, also in five.  Day two action saw a similar pattern as the Blue Angels were victorious in the first by a 6-1 margin, before falling in the finale 21-7 in five innings.

Freshmen Victoria Rivera (Bronx, NY) earned her first collegiate wins, as she worked both victories for CNR.  

Throughout the weekend, CNR combined for 26 hits.  Leading the way for CNR was sophomore Lyndsey Edwards (Baltimore, MD) and freshmen Nia Garcia (Bronx) each with five hits and four RBI.  Rivera added three hits and an RBI.  

In the closest game of the weekend (6-1 win for CNR), New Rochelle exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to blow open a 1-1 game.  Freshmen Shirley Burgos (Bronx, NY) ground ball drove in what would eventually be the game winning run.  Edwards and Rivera picked up an RBI each to go with two unearned runs off of Pine Manor errors to set the final.

CNR will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Baruch College for a double-header at 4pm.
