Sound Shore Medical Center Names New Senior Vice President

DrRichardBarone(New Rochelle, NY) — Sound Shore Medical Center (SSMC) is pleased to announce Richard P. Barone, MD of White Plains, NY as its new Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs/Medical Director.

Commenting on the appointment, President and CEO of Sound Shore Medical Center, John R. Spicer said, “Dr. Barone has been a valued member of the Sound Shore Family, not only in his capacity as an admitting physician, but also in his most recent roles as Medical Director of Schaffer Extended Care Center and Director of SSMC’s Arthritis Clinic.” He continued, “The Administration and the Board of Governors are pleased that he has accepted this position. He concluded, “Dr. Barone is a well-regarded physician and administrator, and I look forward to working with him in his new capacity.”

Dr. Barone is the founding member and current president of Rheumatology Associates of Southern Westchester, PC in New Rochelle – the largest private Rheumatology practice in Westchester County. In his new position, Dr. Barone will be responsible for the medical and administration of the medical staff and will represent that body with the Medical Center Administration and the Board of Governors.

Dr. Barone is a member of numerous professional organizations. He is a founding member and currently president of New Rochelle Geriatric Medical Services, PC, on the Boards of Pinnacle Physician Group, Sound Shore Physician Group, and the New York Medical Directors Association, a long term Care organization. In addition, he is a founding fellow of the American College of Rheumatology. Since joining the Medical Staff in 1976, he has served on many Sound Shore Medical Center Committees as well as served as head of the Arthritis Clinic. Dr. Barone is also actively engaged in its medical residency teaching program and the Rheumatology Fellowship Training Program at Sound Shore Medical Center.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from Wheeling Jesuit University, Dr. Barone earned his medical degree from the University of Bologna Medical School. Then he returned to the U.S. for his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine as well as Fellowship in Rheumatology at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital Medical Center – currently known as Interfaith Medical Center.
