Sound Shore Medical Center Names Schaffer Medical Director

GeorgeStivala(New Rochelle, NY) — Sound Shore Medical Center (SSMC) is pleased to announce George J. Stivala, MD as the new Medical Director of its Schaffer Extended Care Center.

Dr. Stivala is in private practice in New Rochelle and has provided medical coverage at Schaffer since 1999. Previously, he served as Associate Medical Director for long-term care as well as Medical Director for Schaffer’s short-term, rehabilitation patients. In his new position, he will continue providing medical expertise while handling the responsibilities of Schaffer’s medical management and regulatory requirements.

Dr. Stivala received his Doctor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the University of Roma “La Sapienza”, in Rome, Italy before completing both his internship and residency at Sound Shore Medical Center. He has served on the SSMC Medical Board and is a clinical instructor for SSMC’s Medical Residency Program – the same Program where he completed his post graduate training.

Commenting on the appointment, President and CEO of Sound Shore Medical Center, John R. Spicer said, “Dr. Stivala has a long history with Sound Shore Medical Center and is a valued member of the Medical Staff.” He continued, “We are pleased that he has accepted this appointment where his direct patient care expertise, coupled with his medical management skills will benefit Schaffer Extended Care Center and its patients.”
