Sound Shore Medical Center Welcomes New Gastroenterologist

Image002 NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Sound Shore Medical Center (SSMC) is pleased to announce the addition of Roger Coron, MD to its medical staff. As a gastroenterologist, Dr. Coron will offer his expertise in treating patients with disorders and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. His capabilities span the spectrum – from diseases of the esophagus, stomach and the small bowel to the colon and pancreas. Dr. Coron has particular interest in irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease and diseases of the liver.

Commenting President and CEO of Sound Shore Medical Center, John R. Spicer said, “The addition of Dr. Coron to Sound Shore Medical Center strengthens our gastrointestional capabilities.” He concluded, “Sound Shore is pleased to add a physician of his caliber to the Medical Staff.”

Dr. Coron is board certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He graduated from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School, where he earned a prestigious Summer Student Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering as well as clerkship honors in Internal Medicine and clerkship sub-internship honors in Gastroenterology, Emergency Medicine and Ophthalmology. In addition, Dr. Coron was inducted into the Gold Humanism in Medicine Honor Society that honors medical students for “demonstrated excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service”. He completed his post-graduation training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia before accepting a prestigious Gastroenterology Fellowship at New York Medical College.

Dr. Coron’s research was published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, and he has presented at Digestive Disease Week and other forums, including the Pennsylvania Medical Society and American College of Gastroenterology. His research has included investigation into the genetic mutations in the minority population with Crohn’s disease and the comparison of these individuals with specific genetic mutations in Caucasian patients with Crohn’s disease.
