NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Three student musicians from New Rochelle High School have been chosen to perform in the All-State Conference of the New York State School Music Association in late November.

Cellist Taz Kim, soprano I Annael Alvarez and tenor II David Rubertone were among 900 students statewide chosen to perform at the music festival in Rochester. They were among more than 6,500 students who auditioned with solos last year as sophomores and juniors. Each young musician chosen was also recommended by a teacher.

“This is the highest honor that New York music teachers can bestow on a child,” said Marc Schneider, District Supervisor of Music and Art. “They join some famous legends who have gone on to incredible careers.”

The students are looking forward to the event, which takes place Nov. 30 through Dec. 3.

“There are a lot of amazing players that I know around the state, and I am very happy that I am going to be playing with them,” Kim said.

All three NRHS musicians scored 100 in their solo auditions, in which contestants perform challenging, complex songs or music pieces. At the conference, Kim, a junior, will play in the All-State Symphony Orchestra. Alvarez and Rubertone, both seniors, will sing in the All-State Mixed Chorus.

Both singers were also chosen for the conference last year.

“It was wonderful to be able to share that experience with others who enjoy singing and music as much as I do,” Alvarez said.

“I am so proud that I got another 100,” Rubertone said. “I worked very hard for this. It’s my greatest school experience and I can’t wait.”
