NRPD Officers Honored at Young Israel of Scarsdale

Young Israel of Scarsdale held a special service Saturday to recognize the New Rochelle Police unit of officers that are designated to patrol the Houses of Worship in New Rochelle.  Rabbi Jonathan Morgenstern presented each of the officers with a book of Psalms in gratitude for their service. When the officers entered the synagogue during the service, the entire congregation stood up and applauded continually in gratitude for their service.

GOP Leader Honored

Denise Ward, Vice-Chair of the New Rochelle Republican party was named Countywide District Leader of the Year.

Journal News Publisher Behind “Gun Map” Resigns

Janet Hasson has resigned as as president and publisher of The Journal News Media Group effective March 6th. She is leaving to become president and publisher of The Providence Journal, owned by GateHouse Media. The “ProJo” is Rhode Island’s largest newspaper. Hasson is the second female publisher at the paper and the first since 1879. Hasson ran the Journal News since joining the paper in 2011. Hasson was responsible for the controversial “gun map” listing all registered gun owners in Westchester. The map spawned a response from Talk of the Sound which published a map listing the personal addresses and contact information for all Journal News employees.

New Rochelle High School Student Published in Peer-Reviewed Science Article

David Lopez, a senior at New Rochelle High School, has co-authored a peer-reviewed article published in the Langmuir, the journal of the American Chemical Society. The article was written by Lopez along with Omoakhe Tisor, Michelle Muzzio, and Sunghee Lee of the Department of Chemistry at Iona College. Adaptability of Monoglyceride-Induced Crystallization of K2SO4: Effect of Various Anions and Lipid Chain Splay http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/la5049419 is a study investigating the influence of specific anions upon the character of the crystallization process of a model inorganic salt in an aqueous microdroplet in the presence of monolayers of monoelaidin, monovaccenin, monoolein, and monolinolein assembled at a water–decanol interface.
