Virginia j. Mullins (1924 – 2012), Former New Rochelle Teacher

Virginia J. Mullins, 88, died on December 2, 2012, with her family by her side, in Scottsdale, AZ. Virginia was a longtime resident of New Rochelle, and had recently relocated to Arizona. Virginia was born in Greenwich, CT to the late Herman and Josephine (O’Connor) Wyler. Virginia grew up in the Bronx and started her career on Wall Street at Bankers Trust. In 1949, she married, moved to Pelham and began working at Bloomingdales in New Rochelle. Later on, while bringing up four children, Virginia began teaching and her career spanned over 25 years at Jefferson and Barnard schools. Many of those years were working with special needs children, all of whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her husband Robert M Mullins, Jr. who died on November 23, 1998. She was also predeceased by her brother Ken, and sisters, Helen and Regina. She is survived by her children: Patricia Haggerty (John) of Cave Creek AZ, Robert M Mullins III of New Rochelle, Elizabeth Sarrubbo (Bill) of Scottsdale AZ, Kathryn Mullins of White Plains; and her grandchildren Emma Haggerty and Jack Sarrubbo. She is also survived by her sister, Charlotte Weinhofer (Buddy) of San Diego, sister-in-law Dorothy Petix of New Rochelle, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved and loyal chihuahua, Coco.Memorial contributions may be made in Virginia’s memory to Hospice of the Valley, Scottsdale, AZ Eckstein Center (www.hov.org).
