Women's Volleyball Takes Two; Improves to 7-4

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The home winning streak continued Friday night for the College of New Rochelle Women’s Volleyball team as they soundly swept Sarah Lawrence College in non-conference action at the Wellness Center.  With the 3-0 win, CNR improves to 15-7 while the Gryphons fall to 2-17.  The home winning streak is now 11 games in a row.

It was a contest where CNR basically led all three matches from start to finish, winning by scores of 25-9, 25-13, and 25-14.

The Blue Angels were led by a trifecta of sophomore players with seven kills each.  They included Tamara Beckford (Bronx, NY), Caitline Harrison (Bronx, NY), and Fabiola Padilla Rios (San Juan, PR).  As a team, CNR outhit Sarah Lawrence 30-14, but made more errors (12-10) while hitting.  On serve, junior Melanie Ann Lopez Soto (Gurabo, PR) earned a double-double with her 10 aces to go along with 21 assists.  CNR racked up 24 aces on the night.  Freshmen Stephanie Garcia (Chino, CA) led the way on defense with 7 digs.

Family Weekend will continue tomorrow with a 1:00 pm match against John Jay College.
