NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe Mustangs women's cross country team appears to have strengthened a team that was last year's Region XV Champion and finished twenty-second at the NJCAA cross country championships.

The team is led by returning sophomore, Jrenda Rivera from Staten Island . The new Mustangs joining her are Nokuthula Dlamini of South Africa, Susan Ejore of Eldoret, Kenya, and Tashay Roberts, out of Bloomfield, Connecticut.

Rivera, now a sophomore on the team, looks to continue upon last season's success, where she rose to be the number four scorer for the Mustangs and ran a season best (20:20) at the NJCAA Championships.

Dlamini, a native of Gauteng, South Africa, comes to Monroe after a long recruiting process. She's a versatile and experienced runner who loves competition. This past season she was the 5000m South African Champion and was voted the Most Versatile Sports Woman and the Sports Woman of the Year at her high school.

Ejore a native of Nairobi, is a very experienced runner.  Head Coach, Shirvon Greene reflected on the Kenyan, "She loves what she does and is very committed."  This past season she ran an impressive 4:37 in the 1500m race at a Kenyan development meet.

Tashay Roberts, a recent graduate from Bloomfield High School in Connecticut brings hard work and dedication to the Mustangs. This past season she ran an impressive 2:18.57 in the 800m at the Connecticut State Championship.

Coach Greene offered his expectations for the 2015 season, "This year should be an outstanding year for us. It must be noted that this year we have the largest women team in our program history; 16 runners, all of whom are very dedicated and spirited."

The Monroe College cross country team opens its 2015 season on Saturday, September 12, when they run in the Fordham Fiasco at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
