HAPPY BIRTHDAY: New Rochelle's Talk of the Sound Turns Two

Talk of the Sound turns two today.
To all our readers and contributors...thank you!
In 2006, New Rochelle City Officials Improperly Granted Certificates of Occupancy for 3 Buildings at Huguenot Hills
Talk of the Sound has determined that City of New Rochelle building officials improperly approved Certificates of Occupancy for the mixed-use development built at 179 East Main Street by Bob Young Companies in 2006. The development, Huguenot Hills, is located between Main Street and Old Boston Post Road across the street from the road that leads to Five Islands Park. The development appears to violate local, County and State building codes related to plumbing and drainage as well as requirements that no modifications are made to previously approved building plans without written approval.

The developer failed to install a required system of gutters and leaders or downspouts on Building A, Building B and much of Building C as required under the plan approved by the City of New Rochelle.
Fuddled Father Flies From Forest into Forest
An elderly man drove his car down Forest Avenue, turned into the driveway of his son's house at 373 Forest Avenue, then managed to steer the vehicle between two parked cars, past a portable driveway basketball hoop, into the backyard, and down an embankment before coming to rest with the vehicle partially submerged in a small wooded area behind the house.

The homeowner, Roy Markel, called for an ambulance. Two passengers in the vehicle were injured and taken by ambulance to Sound Shore Medical Center. The driver, whose name was not released by police on the scene, was given a sobriety test in the driveway. He struggled to even stand let alone take any sobriety tests so the police took him down the police station with a predictable outcome. Talk of the Sound will obtain a copy of the police report tomorrow to get further details.
UPDATE: NRPD confirms this was a DWI personal injury motor vehicle accident.

New Rochelle Police Find Garden Street a Target-Rich Environment for Drinking Drivers
New Rochelle Police had a sobriety checkpoint set up last night on Garden Street between North Avenue and the Exit 16 on/off ramp, a location ideally situation to insure a steady flow of expired inspection stickers, panicky drivers and a fair share of drinking drivers, several of whom were arrested and removed from the scene. Safeway Towing was doing steady business taking away cars and the occasional motorcycle, two at a time. Sergeant Myron Joseph led a team officers who kept the line moving but patiently checked each car as they made their way through choke points situation to catch unwary drivers off guard as they either pulled off I-95 North at Exit 16 or made the right onto North Avenue coming from downtown New Rochelle.
On man was given an extensive series of sobriety tests which would have been difficult for the most sober teetotaler after Sunday church services. He flunked, was handcuffed and put into the back of an NRPD cruiser.

GETTING RESULTS: Con Ed Moves Transformers in Front of Huguenot Hills in New Rochelle

Con Edison, aware that the wires in front of Huguenot Hills were becoming an issue based on reports on Talk of the Sound, arrived this morning to move a transformer that may have been just a bit too close to the building. Not wanting to risk the fallout if the transformer exploded so close to the Huguenot Hills building.
Talk of the Sound had not one but three contributors who came upon the seen today and made a report or took photos. You know who you are. Thanks folks and remember if you see something, say something...or at least pull out your cellphone and take some pictures.
