The giants of the mobile device market are racing in the direction of quad-core processor support. Reports indicate that Apple could have terminated a big shot. The iOS 5.1 beta has the earmarks of quad-core support, reports Engadget. Source of article: The iOS 5.1 beta suggests Apple is on track for quad core

Brand new reference for iOS 5.1

As reported by 9to5Mac, there are two images that suggest iOS 5.1 will support over just the same, old dual-core devices. The images relate to the processing core of whatever system runs the updated OS. As opposed to being named “/cores/core.1” as an OS optimized for dual-core processors would be, the iOS 5.1 beta references “/cores/core.3” as a marker for quad-core capability.

The Emerging Local Media Landscape in New Rochelle - 2012

TalkoftheSound 1000000Talk of the Sound recently hit a major milestone in becoming the first hyper-local site in New Rochelle to reach 1,000,000 unique visitors. Don't expect any cheering from over in City Hall. After years of hoping we would just go away, the powers that be in New Rochelle have grudgingly come to realize we are not going away.

Mahatma Gandhi is often cited, incorrectly, as having said:

First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.

Readers can decide where we have gotten to along this continuum but the time has long since passed that Talk of the Sound is ignored.

Time Is Of the Essence - Come Support New Rochelle Firefighters on December 6th

NRFD Station 2 Ladder 12

A Public Hearing is scheduled for December 6th at 7:30 pm at City Hall, please come out to support public safety and voice your concern.

Consider that New Rochelle Fire Company Ladder 12 is closed today. Since the release of the preliminary budget it has been out of service more than it has been in service. The preliminary budget calls for a reduction of 5 less (almost 20%) fire fighters working per shift since 2009 and to permanently close Ladder 12 for 2012. Ladder 12 is a crucial part of the Fire Departments ability to provide “time of the essence” life-saving service; its primary function includes search and rescue. A normal response to a call requires that 2 engines and 2 trucks respond. If the response happens to be in the North End of New Rochelle and another call comes in on Pelham Road, there will not be another ladder to respond. Even if the call turns out to be a false alarm, the travel time to respond to the other end of the city can be upwards of 21 minutes (as per map quest); the distance between the 2 ends of New Rochelle is more than 8 miles apart.

Whether You Believe It or Not, Your Safety Has Been Compromised

City Management Guts the Fire Department and Decides to Gamble With Your Safety all to Save Less Than 3 Cents Per Day Per Resident

As we celebrate our 150th The City of New Rochelle slashed its first responder protection on Thursday cutting its minimum on duty firefighting contingent to 24 firefighters, 5 less than 2 years ago. Additionally, one of the department’s three ladder companies (LADDER 12), which conduct search, rescue and recovery operations, is no longer in service.

The city is gambling with the lives of its citizens to save less than 3 cents a day per resident. Will fire victims stuck on the upper floors of a building be able to hold their breath or survive the extra minutes it will take to rescue them, “if we ever get to them?”

New Rochelle’s proposed 2012 city budget calls for the Fire Department to eliminate another 9 firefighter positions on top of the already 16 reduced in the 2 previous years. This action will permanently close Ladder 12. The $770,000 budget saving would amount to less than 3 cents per resident per day or ½ of 1 per cent of the city’s total budget.
