Guilty Plea In New Rochelle I-95 Wrong Way Fatal Crash

Screen Shot 2012 01 31 at 3 01 23 PMWestchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Tanisha Gomez (DOB 06/18/85) of 132-39 88th Street, Ozone Park, New York, pled guilty today to all counts of a nine count indictment that charged her with:

  • three counts of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, class “B” Felonies,
  • one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony,
  • one count of Vehicular Assault in the First Degree, a class “D” Felony,
  • one count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified Misdemeanor in the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law,
  • two counts of Driving While Intoxicated, unclassified Misdemeanors in the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law,
  • one count of Reckless Driving, an unclassified Misdemeanor in the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Drugs, Handgun Seized Following Traffic Stop On The Hutch in New Rochelle

WCPDHutchArrest Carvalho AlmeidaWestchester County Police arrested two Massachusetts men yesterday and seized more than 1,000 Oxycodone pills and a 9-mm semi-automatic handgun.

Police Officer Stephen Stromberg was on patrol on the eastbound Cross County Parkway at 10:36 a.m. when he observed a 2005 Nissan Altima that was missing its front license plate. He followed the vehicle on to the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway and stopped it in the vicinity of North Avenue in New Rochelle.

Stromberg removed the driver from the vehicle to interview him. When backup officers arrived, the driver, Ryan Carvalho, 26, of Fall River, Mass., threw a plastic bag into a nearby wooded area and struggled briefly with Officers Jaoquim Brito and Christopher Neuhs before being subdued.

The bag, which was recovered, contained 1,088 Oxycodone pills.

The Budget and Appropriations Committee is comprised of nine members including the Chair. In the course of the County’s fiscal year, the Committee:

• Contracts for and reviews the annual independent audit of all county financial dealings, transactions and records conducted by an outside CPA firm;
• Reviews and modifies, where appropriate, the proposed county budget;
• Monitors all county operational and capital expenditures;
• Analyzes and reviews all fiscally related matters and makes recommendations on those matters to the full Board for consideration;
• Seeks opportunities for operational reform that will lead to better and less costly county government.

Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Seizure On The Hutch In New Rochelle

BECKER JeffreyWestchester County Police arrested a Connecticut man this morning after he was found in possession of almost 500 prescription drug pills following a traffic stop on the Hutchinson River Parkway in New Rochelle.

Police Officer Steven Stromberg was on patrol on the northbound Hutch about 1:30 a.m. when he stopped a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer for a traffic violation near Wilmot Road. A computer check revealed that the driver’s license was suspended on seven occasions for failure to answer summonses and pay fines.

Jeffrey Becker, 23, of Thaddeus Avenue, Danbury, was placed under arrest and his vehicle was impounded. A subsequent inventory search turned up 453 Oxycodone tablets and 43 Opana (oxymorphone) tablets hidden in several places in the car.

Former Eastchester Police Officer Sentenced in New Rochelle Driveway Shooting Case

James PileggiWestchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that James Pileggi (DOB 4/06/80) of 40 Mill Road, Eastchester, New York was sentenced today to an indeterminate term of three to nine years in state prison on his conviction after a jury trial of: one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony, for causing the death of Andre Everett.

On the evening of November 3, 2009, the victim, a New Rochelle realtor, was inside his home on Albert Place in New Rochelle.

He went out onto his driveway to talk to a group of acquaintances who were seated in the defendant’s car.

The car was owned by James Pileggi who at the time was an off-duty Eastchester Police Officer.

Pileggi was seated in the front passenger seat of his car and was playing with his off-duty gun, a Glock 9mm, with a laser sight affixed to it.

At some point while the victim was standing by the rear driver’s door, the defendant discharged the weapon and the bullet struck the victim in the throat.

Richard Fevang. who was facing a 66-Count Indictment for Fraud related to his work as DPW Fleet Manager for the City of New Rochelle, was sentenced today to 5 years probation and time served (1 day) by Judge Robert A. Neary under an agreement negotiated with Judge Albert Lorenzo. Under the deal, Fevang plead guilty to Tampering with Public Records, a Class D Felony. Judge Neary also approved a permanent order of protection to stay away from the entire population of New Rochelle. Neary warned Fevang that any contact, on any form, direct or indirect, with anyone from New Rochelle would be a violation and could result in a separate prosecution.

"That's the last thing you need right now", said Judge Neary.
