Talk of the Sound Will Be Reporting LIVE from Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis

SuperBowl42 060Managing Editor Robert Cox will be heading to Indianapolis tomorrow to cover Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots for Talk of the Sound. Cox will be reporting every step of the way from the flight in to the celebration after the Giants win.

For Cox, this will be his fifth Super Bowl and his fourth Giants Super Bowl.

He attended his first NFL Championship Game in 1987 where the Giants defeated the Denver Broncos 39-20 at Super Bowl XXI at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. After missing the Giants 20-19 victory over the Buffalo Bills at Super Bowl XXV in 1991, Cox attended two more Giant Super Bowls: Super Bowl XXXV in 2001 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida which the Giants lost 34-7 to the Baltimore Ravens and Super Bowl XLII in 2008 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

College of New Rochelle Guard Alyssa Pechin Named HVWAC Basketball Rookie of the Week

NewImageCollege of New Rochelle guard Alyssa Pechin has been selected as the HVWAC Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. The freshman from Yonkers, NY scored in double figures during a 1-1 week of conference play for the Blue Angels. Pechin accumulated 15 points, eight assists and six steals in only 11 minutes of action in a win over Vaughn. For the week, Pechin averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 steals and 5.0 assists.

Iona Athletics To Host Blood Drive Tuesday

KPRAVFELVUMITRU 20120125193336The Iona College Athletics Department, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will host a Blood Drive on campus on Jan. 31, 2012.

The department invites anyone in the Iona Community come out participate in this goodwill effort. The blood drive will run from 9 am - 5 pm, and will be held on campus in the Hegarty Multi Purpose Room of the Hynes Athletics Center.

All donors will receive a coupon for a free pound of Dunkin' Donuts Coffee.

The American Red Cross and the MAAC joined together to create the MAAC Blood Drive Challenge as a fun and competitive way to emphasize the critical importance of donating blood. A trophy will be awarded to the school that draws the most donors.

Former New Rochelle High School Standout Ray Rice Named Starter in NFL Pro Bowl

Ray Rice copySeven Baltimore Ravens were voted to the Pro Bowl, the NFL announced Tuesday evening. LB Ray Lewis, S Ed Reed, LB Terrell Suggs, DT Haloti Ngata, FB Vonta Leach, RB Ray Rice and G Marshal Yanda were selected to play in the NFL's All-Star game, which will be held on Jan. 29, 2012, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Rice, who was selected as an AFC starter, was named to the second Pro Bowl of his four-year career. Entering the NFL's final week, Rice has recorded a league-high 1,869 scrimmage yards and is third in the AFC with 1,173 rushing yards. A dual-threat back, he is tops in receiving yards (696) and second in receptions (74) among all running backs. Furthermore, with four receiving yards in Week 17, he will become just the second player in NFL history to record multiple seasons with at least 1,000 rushing and 700 receiving yards (Marshall Faulk accomplished the feat four times).
