Written By: Talk of the Sound News

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Downtown BID Farmers Market will kick off its third year on Saturday, May 30 at 9 a.m. Join us and Mayor Noam Bramson and downtown Councilman Ivar Hyden for the opening ceremony at 10:00 a.m.

The Market runs every Saturday from May 30th through October 31st from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine on Library Green.

Located next to the New Rochelle Public Library on Huguenot Street between Memorial Highway and Lawton Street, the market features more than 25 weekly and guest vendors.

Downtown’s market is unique, conceived as both a weekly farmers market as well as a community celebration for the entire family. It hosts a large variety of locally grown and harvested food products—from fish freshly caught that morning to produce still warm from the fields, as well as artisanal products such freshly baked desserts to micro brewed beers. The Market’s popular Ready Set Sharp will return to keep a sharp edge on all our knives as will the New Rochelle Artisans and live cooking demonstrations by Cookin’ with Sonia.

The market ‘weekly community festival will offer free entertainment and activities through weekly BID programs:

  • Family Day Entertainment: Children enjoy free weekly activities, performances and arts and crafts while their parents catch up with friends and neighbors.
  •  Live Music: Free weekly live music by regional bands and artists create a festive atmosphere for market goers as they shop for foods and produce.
  • Al fresco Dining: Local restaurants offer ready-to-eat fare as shoppers hang out and dine with family and friends in our outdoor dining area.
  • Plus shoppers can learn about their many community organizations at our Council for Community Services tent.

The Downtown Farmers Market is created by the New Rochelle Downtown BID, managed by Urban Fresh Food Markets LLC, and is sponsored by Monroe College, Green Mountain Energy, La Rochelle Luxury Apartments and the BID.

“We want our Farmers Market to not only bring healthy farm-fresh and local produce to residents of New Rochelle and surrounding communities, but also to serve as a festive community gathering place bringing people to see their friends in their reawakened, revitalized and vibrant downtown,” said Ralph DiBart, BID executive director. “We are happy that Bo Kemp and Urban Fresh Foods Management have agreed to continue their stewardship of this important BID initiative and we welcome Sara B. Caldwell as their new market manager. In keeping with the market’s community focus, both Bo and Sara are New Rochelle residents.”

“We hope the combination local farms, specialty food products and family events and music will provide a lively market experience for shoppers and vendors alike,” said Sara B. Caldwell, market manager. “As a nearby resident I always enjoyed coming to the market, and now I look forward to helping it grow into an exciting weekly destination for New Rochelle and surrounding communities.”
