Dr. Parvey Named Interim Superintendent

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — In her first days as Interim Superintendent of the City School District of New Rochelle, Dr. Magda Parvey spent much of her time visiting the schools that are now in her care.

It was a practice she followed in her role as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and Chief Academic Officer, which she took when she arrived in the District two years ago. After the Board of Education named her the District’s top educator this week, she made a point to visit the schools again in her new role to communicate directly with the staff and students.

“I am looking forward to building on systems we have been putting in place and building public trust,” she said. “The community has become deeply engaged in the District. We want to show that we heard what community members have been telling us.”

Dr. Parvey was appointed to the position Tuesday, replacing Dr. Brian Osborne, who served as Superintendent for four and a half years.

“Dr. Parvey is an outstanding educator and administrator,” said Board of Education President Jeffrey Hastie. “We are confident that she will build on the successes we have seen in recent years in standardizing curriculum across the district. This appointment will provide continuity as we seek a new Superintendent.”

As Assistant Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Parvey oversaw all instructional programs and development of short- and long-range goals for New Rochelle’s instructional program. She came to the District with a wealth of experience, having served as a school district administrator in North Carolina and on Long Island. She had also served as the Assistant Principal of Coman Hill Elementary School in Armonk, among other positions.

Dr. Osborne, in his last meeting on Tuesday, praised Dr. Parvey, whom he had hired.

“Her appointment indicates a determination by the Board of Education for continuity in curriculum and instruction,” he said. “This bodes well for the District’s future.”

The Board of Education has issued a request for proposal for firms to search for the next permanent Superintendent.
