UPDATE: The initial report that the victim was a homeless man was incorrect. That person, known in the downtown community, was not involved in the incident.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A New Rochelle man died following a collision involving a truck at the intersection of Hugenot Street and LeCount Place in front of Trump Tower.
According to police, the man was hit by the truck, knocked over and then hit his head hard on the roadway surface. The man was taken to Montefiore Hospital New Rochelle where he pronounced dead from a head trauma. The next of kin have been notified.
The incident occurred at about 5 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle, a white landscaper truck, remained on the scene cooperating with police. The driver was not taken into custody by polIce. Witnesses described the driver as distraught.
The streets in the area were closed for over an hour.
Police are not providing further details at the this time.

The accident occurred on Dec. 5th at approximately 4:40pm. A 2013 Ford F550 dump truck, which was making a left-hand turn from Huguenot to LeCount Pl, struck a pedestrian who was crossing LeCount Place. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as Peter Watson, 78 years old, of New Rochelle.
The driver of the truck remained on scene and cooperated with the investigating officers. There have been no charges at this point, however the accident remains under investigation by the Department’s accident investigators.
