Black History Month celebration at New Rochelle High School

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The program for the Feb. 10 Black History Month celebration at New Rochelle High School is growing.

– Hugh Price, New Rochelle resident, author, activist and former President of the National Urban League has joined the list of writers who will take part. He’ll be signing his memoir, This African American Life.

– Derrick James, Director of the Renaissance Ensemble at New Rochelle High School will be honored. He is retiring this year.

– A professional performance by Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy will dazzle the audience.

– Kindergarten performers from Barnard Early Childhood Center have joined the roster, in addition to high school performers.

– The Spoken Word and Art Show will have representation from every school, celebrating the theme of freedom and commemorating Harriet Tubman.

The event runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 10 at the high school. It is presented by the WABSE- Westchester Alliance of Black School Educators in partnership with the New Rochelle Black History Month Club, and with support from the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence and the New Rochelle Council on the Arts.
